Reconstruction of Medov court Hermanuv Mestec

The subject of the bachelor's thesis is to draw up the project documentation for the building permit and also to make parts of the documentation for the execution of the construction. The project proceeds from the architectonic study which was worked out during the summer semester in 2019 in pursuance of the subject AG035 Architectural design studio V.- Monument restoration. The main topic of the study is an overall reconstruction of the homestead and finding a new functional use of the listed building. The assigned parcel of land is situated in the Masaryk's square in Heřmanův Městec. The building historical research states a proof of the existence of the homestead already in 1591. The complicated constructional history of the object is in accordance with its function to provide a farming, dwelling and administrative base for the adjoining, aristocratic mansion. Towards the end of the 18 century this building went through the classicism transformation which has been defining its external appearance up to now. These days the building is mostly used as accommodation for a socially lower class which resulted in the deterioration of its technical state. This piteous situation more and more endangers the protected values of the listed building. The primary aim was to find the right concept with respect to the functional use of the solved object. The whole effort was aimed to create such a functional content which would breath life to the Medov's homestead and will open its door to the inhabitants as well as visitors. In the object there are situated premises that will not directly endanger or degrade the listed building by any their activities. These premises will make a maximal use of the homestead possible in the course of all day. Last but not least I also put an emphasis on the economic aspect of the building by placing restaurants, small shops and an administrative center in order to generate a certain financial benefit for the town.

Castle Zdounky - conservation and restoration in the area

The aim of the present thesis is to carry out an architectural study for the reconstruction of the chateau complex Zdounky, located near Kroměříž in Litenčiče Downs. The chateau complex covers the area of ca. 9 hectares and consists of a four-wing chateau, a Baroque granary, a new farm building with an old orchard, and a large landscape park in the English style with a number of small-scale buildings such as a greenhouse, an ice house and other valuable and remarkable natural sites, for instance an old lime tree alley or a restored animal park. The proposal complies with the intention of the current owners, i.e. to use the complex as a centre for environmental education of the youth and to make it available to the general public with an interest in nature and ecology. Therefore, the main goal of the study has been to find an optimal urban-architectural solution in order to preserve the historic value of the buildings and at the same time allow the possibility of using them for their new purposes. The concept of the reconstruction is influence by the correspondence of the surrounding landscape, the place’s history, the historic value of the individual buildings and the morphology of the terrain. The whole complex is organized in order to give the impression of unity where all the functions are connected in a logical way. It was the division of the complex into public, semi-public and private zones that represented the main guideline for the present plan. The design of the reconstructed chateau includes the semi-public and private zones - it comprises both the educational centre with accommodation as well as the owners’ residence surrounded by a private garden. The Baroque granary is reconstructed and used as a museum. Additionally, a new orangery is added and its facilities used for a cider house (in the form of a small café) where local production commodities are sold. Both of these are open to the general public as well as the chateau park. Furthermore, the design includes a trail around the chateau. For the purposes of the present thesis, it was necessary to find and redraw the old plans, verify and document their true condition and measure the Baroque granary, whose documentation was completely missing.

The monument procedure in a structured form records data obtained through research from the area of interest of the NAKI II project "Landscape memory of the Moravian and Silesian Sudetes in danger" (DG20P02OVV008). The monument procedure is categorized on the basis of the analysis of negative impacts in the care of movable and immovable archaeological heritage in the landscape of the Czech Republic, which are disturbed by logging.

The monastery - a vision of the future

The aim of the project is to establish a local craft brewery in the former Capuchin convent, which‘ll contribute to the further development of the town of Fulnek. A small pub will complement the new brewery and the basement under the north and east wings of the convent will be used as a wine cellar with rentable cubicles for storing archive wines and common room for vine tasting. The new complex will also provide public tours of the brewery's beer making operation. A lecture room will add the possibility of educational lectures related to brewing. All of this, together with the multi-purpose hall in the recently renovated capuchin church, finishes the real cultural centre of Fulnek. The newly formed purpose of the convent is designed to be a self-sufficient entity that will help restore the name of the now mostly forgotten, but historically significant town.

Villa Müller versus Villa Tugendhat - A Comparison of Two Different Restoration Projects of Modernist Buildings

1 English abstract: Villa Müller versus Villa Tugendhat - A Comparison of Two Different Restoration Projects of Modernist Buildings. The work compares two successful restorations of interwar Czechoslovak avant-garde buildings realized between 1995 and 2012. At first, the respective histories of both buildings are compared since their creation through two totalitarian regimes up to their restoration. The fates of builders and architects of both villas are also described. From the point of view of historic preservation the work describes the state of both buildings before the commencement of restoration. The errors committed by the original designers are also described here. The methodology of restoration of both villas stemming from the professional points of view and relevant laws governing heritage protection is also treated in detail. The emphasis is given on preparation works preceding the design phase - the historic-structural survey, which, in both cases, was conceived as above-standard. Due to their span, these surveys have marked a key moment in relation to the modern cultural heritage within the Czech context. Historic Building as a Museum (Contemporary Architecture and Heritage Conservation Issues)

The master's student will conduct a study dedicated to the question of using heritage objects for the presentation of museum collections with the emphasis on art museums and the possibilities and limits of contemporary architecture. The subject of the thesis will first be explored through a short historical review which will organically connect the history of collecting with the history of architecture and historic preservation. The chosen topic will be further specified through a case study showing some of the issues faced when adapting and using heritage objects for the needs of an art museum. This will be done using the example of the National Gallery in Prague. The core part of the thesis will be a comparative analysis of selected contemporary architecture interventions in historical buildings in the Czech Republic. This will lead to conclusions about the relationship between the generally accepted belief in a cultural - ideally museum - use as a non-conflict ideal of a future life for heritage objects, as well as the opportunities and limits of contemporary architecture in its fulfilment. History and controversy of the Marian Column in the Old Town Square in Prague

The history and controversy of the Marian column on Prague's Old Town Square Abstract In the fall od 1648, nearly at the end of the Thirty Year's War, the Swedish army has been occupying Prague's Little Side and Castle and heading towards the Old Town. The weakest point of the defense was the Charles Bridge guarded by the so called Marian legion - a small unit of untrained students, townsmen and merchants facing professional army with double the size. During these harsh times these protectors praised the higher power, especially Virgin Mary for help, promising that they would erect a column with her statue on the Old town square. The promise was kept and one of the first monuments of this kind in Europe was bulit. The reason of its later demolition was Jirásek's interpretation of that time. He described this period of history as an era of darkness and opression of the Czech nation after the Battle of White Mountain. The column was considered a glorification of this specific period of time. Most of our society nowadays does not have a clue about the origin and the demolition of the column that once was one of the most beautiful baroque monuments.
